Welcome to the Alliance for Nonviolent Communication Web site! |
Compassionate Communication, also known as Nonviolent Communicationsm, is a way of speaking that facilitates the flow of communication needed to exchange information and resolve differences peacefully. It helps us identify our shared values and needs, encourages us to use language that increases goodwill, and avoid language that contributes to resentment or lowers self-esteem.NVC can be used in any situation to communicate more clearly. For example, when parents relate to their children embodying the principles of Nonviolent Communication, they can elicit the child's cooperation without damaging the parent-child relationship or the child's self-esteem. In schools, NVC helps teachers promote respect, autonomy, and interdependence and bring the joy of learning to the classroom. NVC can also help us deal with our internal negative self-talk. Thus, it helps us develop compassion toward ourselves as well as toward others.
To see how NVC can work, please see our examples of NVC in Action.
The Alliance for Nonviolent Communication offers workshops that can help organizations and individuals develop their communication skills and create more satisfying and fulfilling relationships. If you are interested in offering such a workshop, led by Myra Walden, CNVC Certified Trainer, please contact us.
